I took my car here for a regular service after Robin had spoken to me at length by phone. He will give his time freely on the phone and is a genuine Porsche enthusiast. I was initially impressed by the level of knowledge and enthusiasm for the Porsche brand. I was given a tour of the premises before the service was commenced and then witnessed the service. The premises are shabby and disorganised, the body shop especially, a million miles from an OPC. Robin is an individual who is given to verbosity. You will, as I found, pay for this, during the service Robin gave forth his views about anything and everything, frequently bad mouthing other Porsche specialists and body shops. All this chat extended the service time, “so what?” you say, but all the while a manually set timer is running that applies to an hourly rate. Beware, you are ‘on the meter’, will pay for conversion! To make matters worse the workshop was inexperienced with 991s, the result was a 20 minute wait while the service reset in the car was figured out. Again, this was ‘on the meter’, I had to pay for their ineptitude using the laptop. The result of all this? I paid what a service at an OPC would have cost without the pleasant surroundings. I consider the Auto Umbau stamp in my service book a blemish, a costly mistake. I cannot recommend this business. If you do feel compelled to use them I would strongly recommend agreeing a fixed price beforehand.

Not interested in 914s or the people who own them... and can be fairly ____ing rude.

I first contacted Robin about a Porsche he had previously restored. From the moment he began openly and honestly talking about the car I knew not only was he extremely knowledgeable he was a thoroughly decent chap. He told me of his beloved SC that he was considering parting with and I knew his car would be something special. I had the pleasure to view and test drive on Robins test track and was blown away with car, its setup and Robins encyclopaedic knowledge. He is such a genuine and nice fella, so generous with his time and advice. I cannot thank Robin enough for his help and assistance and truly value his support. I didn’t buy his SC because the trim wasn’t to my taste and it would have been a travesty to refit out his beautiful original SC. However my new 3.2 Carrera Coupe will be visiting him in the near future. I’m so looking forward to getting my overalls on and spending a day with Robin under my new pride and joy.

Met with Robin who is charming, friendly, welcoming but most importantly well versed in all things Porsche. He gave me time and showed patience in explaining everything to me in terms I would understand without bamboozling me with terms and rhetoric that only a seasoned Porsche fanatic would understand. A really well run business with transparent pricing, I would not hesitate to recommend people here as they are a solid independent Porsche specialist.

I was returning from London to Chester when suddenly a warning message appeared on my Panamera dash! I googled Porsche garages nearby and Auto Umbau was the closest to the section of the M1 I was on. I diverted off the motorway and drove over and Robin very kindly and quickly identified the issue - oil needed topping up! Robin topped the oil up and he also offered me great advice on using Porsche specialist garages for services etc; Robin took the time to google garages nearby to Chester that would be best to use. Thank you Robin for helping out a slightly panicked lady!

What do I begin! Robin has been nothing but amazing! Hard to find a trust worthy person like Robin! Had issue with my clutch sensors and stroke of luck he managed to get this fixed in no time! Had so much embarrassment and headache when clutch sensor failed and car didn’t start in the road. I shall definitely return to Robin and Terry once I save enough money for the major service and coolant change!

Having acquired a Boxster that had lacked care and love for a few years, I needed more than the basic level of care an attention to put things right. Robin and his team were recommended to me by two friends that had recieved an excellent experience from Auto Umbau in the past. Not only did they put up with a barrage of stupid questions and patiently explained why some of the myths surrounding Boxster ownership were not true, they even invited me to view my vehicle once all the inspection panels were removed to get a proper look at the reality. Rather than the general approach of most Porsche garages they approached the repairs in a manner normally reserved for restorations, ensuring that obvious preventative measures were applied to reduce future bills and issues (even down to applying aviation grade inhibitor to exposed aluminium parts). It became obvious after watching them work and talk about their approach that this team love the vehicles they work with delivering above and beyond in terms of care and attention to detail. Once everything was sorted to Robin's exacting standards I was treated to a spin around their test circuit to show just how capable the vehicle was and to demonstrate the marked improvement in both handling and performance. Yet another layer of professionalism on an already well polished experience.
